Donegal’s unbeaten run in 2024 came to an end this afternoon as Cork dealt them a 3-9 to 0-16 defeat at Pairc Ui Rinn for back-to-back wins in Group 3 of the All-Ireland senior football championship.
Having trailed 0-9 to 1-4 at the half, the Rebels registered quickfire goals from Sean Powter and Rory Maguire in the opening minutes of the restart to take control of the tie.
Brian Hurley’s free made it 3-5 to 0-9 in the 45th minute and, despite the Ulster champions battling back to level it 20 minutes with the help of points from Oisin Gallen and Paddy McBrearty, the hosts would see out the job in the time that remained.
Points from Steven Sherlock and Colm O’Callaghan down the home stretch were enough to pull off the upset for the Leesiders.
It leaves Cork now through to the knock-out stages in the Sam Maguire Cup race, while Jim McGuinness’s side must get a result against Clare in Round 3 to ensure their progression.
TweetCork have handed Donegal their first loss of the 2024 season winning 3-9 to 0-16.
