Cormac O’Doherty has expressed disappointment at the fixtures clash involving the Derry senior hurlers and footballers on Sunday.

Supporters will have to choose between both after the hurlers’ Christy Ring Cup final against Kildare was fixed for Croke Park at 2.15pm and the footballers’ All-Ireland SFC Round 2 tie against Armagh was scheduled for Celtic Park at 4pm.

In an interview with BBC NI, the Derry hurling captain said he was led to believe the schedule would be changed if the Oak Leafers reached the Ring Cup decider.

"The communication was it was coming from Croke Park that we would get separate days," he said.

"It's disappointing, but it's done and we're not going to worry too much about it. For the other five teams involved, their footballers are playing Saturday with the hurlers on Sunday.

"I don't know what the reasoning is, but it's disappointing that we can't get the full support of our county here on Sunday.

"I know we'll get a good crowd here backing us, that's the hurling people that we want involved. Hopefully that's enough."
