Dublin made a winning start in Group 2 of the All-Ireland senior football championship after seeing off Roscommon by 2-19 to 0-13 at Croke Park.
Colm Basquel and Con O’Callaghan netted late goals to ensure the victory for the Leinster champions who travel to Cavan for their next outing on the June Bank Holiday weekend.
The Rossies had kept within touching distance of the holders throughout the opening half at headquarters, with the Dubs holding a 0-10 to 0-9 lead at the break.
Despite early points from Brian Fenton and Niall Scully in the second-half, the margin stood at one again in the 48th minute after the scores of Daire Cregg (free) and Diarmuid Murtagh.
A couple of Sean Bugler points and another from Con O’Callaghan created a four-point gap for the first time and, when Basquel got in for the first goal on 65 minutes, the Dubs had the points in the bag before O’Callaghan’s strike three minutes later made sure.
