Armagh star forward Aimee Mackin is facing up to a year on the sidelines after sustaining an ACL injury during last Sunday's Ulster LGFA final win over Donegal.
The news is not only a huge blow to the Orchard County's All-Ireland hopes, but also to her AFLW club Melbourne Demons who she plays for alongside her sister and fellow county player Blaithin.
Mackin suffered the same injury in 2019 and becomes the third high-profile ACL victim this week after Mayo captain Paddy Durkan and Dublin goalkeeper Evan Comerford.
“It’s obviously such a disappointing outcome, injuring herself so close to the beginning of our season,” Jessie Mulholland, Melbourne’s Head of Women’s Football, told Melbourne Media.
“Although we are thousands of kilometres away, we are wrapping our arms around Aimee and will offer whatever support we can in these challenging circumstances.
“There’s lots to work through as we decide how to approach the rest of the season, however, our thoughts at the moment are focused on Aimee and her recovery.”
