Roscommon are Connacht U20 football champions after scoring a 3-13 to 0-17 win over Galway at MacHale Park, Castlebar this evening.
Noel Dunning’s side struck three second-half goals via Niall O’Donnell, Shane McGinley and Ryan Dowling to secure their county’s first provincial U20 crown since 2021.
The Rossies had sent over four unanswered points in the opening seven minutes before Jack Mullen got Galway up and running five minutes later and they’d move through the gears to eventually take the lead.
Fionn MacDonnacha’s mark sent the Tribesmen in at the break with a 0-8 to 0-6 half-time lead, but O’Donnell’s palmed goal in the opening minute of the resumption gave the advantage back to Roscommon.
After falling behind by three, Galway got it back level only to be hit by a goal from ‘Man of the Match’ McGinley as the game entered the closing quarter and Dowling’s goal in injury-time would ensure the sweet triumph for Dunning’s lads.
