Tyrone have been crowned Ulster U20 football champions following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Derry at the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds last night.

The Red Hands won 3-1 on penalties after it finished level, 3-10 to 2-13, after extra-time. Goalkeeper Conor McAneney was the hero after he saved Derry's first three penalties.

In a riveting contest, Johnny McGuckian (Derry) and Shea O'Hare (Tyrone) traded early goals. Ruairi McCullagh raised a second green flag for the winners before a Ronan Walls point left it all square, 1-6 to 2-3, at the interval.

It was tit-for-tat throughout the second half, but neither side could produce a winner in the closing 10 minutes as it finished level, 1-11 to 2-8, at the end of normal time.

A Ryan McNicholl goal helped the Oak Leafers to a 2-13 to 2-9 lead at the end of the first period of extra-time, but Tyrone dug deep after the restart when substitute Ruairi McHugh's fisted goal was followed by the equalising point from Conor Owens which paved the way for the penalty shootout.
