Kildare came through a battle with Wicklow in Portlaoise this afternoon to progress through to the semi-finals of the Leinster senior football championship.
It finished 0-16 to 1-12 at O’Moore Park, where Jack Sargent proved the hero for the Lilywhites with a point deep in injury-time after Oisin McGraynor’s penalty looked to have forced extra time for Wicklow.
Oisin McConville’s men had hung in with their opponents for large portions on this one, as Chris O’Brien’s point saw them only trailing by two (0-9 to 0-7) at half-time.
Kildare had lost Kevin Flynn to a red card in the run up to the break but sill sent over the first three points of the second-half via Paddy Woodgate, Kevin Feely and Niall Kelly.
The Garden County would close the gap to two again and the margin stood come injury-time when they won a penalty which McGraynor tucked away and extra time looked destined until Sargent’s late intervention saw Kildare’s contingent breathe a sigh of relief.
