Leinster U20 HC: Royals outshine Derry at Navan

Meath 1-16 Derry 1-10

After a draw with Westmeath in the opening round Meath made sure of the two points with this victory over Derry in round 2 of the Leinster Tier 2 Under 20 hurling championship played in very windy conditions at Pairc Tailteann.

Daire Shine got the scoreboard working  but by the 10th minute Derry, playing with the wind opened up a 0-3 to 0-2 lead with three pointed frees from Ruairi O Mianáin.

Shine raised another white flag and Mark Leavy landed three frees for the home side and the teams went in level 0-6 each at the break.

As in the first half Daire Shine put Meath in front with an early point. By the 15th minute there was only a point between the teams, Sean Corrigan’s charges 0-10 to 0-9 in front before Meath made a push for home.

A great run from Tom Shine set up Patrick Jordan for the games only goal, Mark Horan, Darragh Heffernan, Leavy and Lorcan Byrne added points and Meath were 1-15 to 0-10 in front heading into the home straight.

O’Mianáin, who impressed throughout, raised a green flag for the visitors from the penalty spot to put a better completion on the scoreboard as Meath ran out six point winners.
