Derry netted three goals in Salthill to continue their winning form in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League and condemn Galway to a second defeat (3-10 to 1-11).

Mickey Harte’s men enjoyed the perfect start that saw Eoin McEvoy lashing in their first goal after just three minutes and, while Galway got a goal back via Céin Darcy 10 minutes before half-time, it was the visitors that took a 1-7 to 1-5 interval lead.

Shane McGuigan's penalty stretched the Ulster champions’ lead after the turnaround and a 56th minute Paul Cassidy goal left nine between them which proved too far a mountain for the Tribesmen to climb.

In Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon picked up two sorely needed points by handing Monaghan a comprehensive 1-16 to 0-7 defeat.

Davy Burke’s men had built up a deserved 0-9 to 0-4 lead at the half before Diarmuid Murtagh bundled in the game’s only goal on 50 minutes.

The result marks the Rossies first win of the Division 1 campaign and lifts them out of the relegation zone, with Monaghan now rooted to the bottom of the table with three rounds remaining.
