John ‘Tommy Joe’ Farrell was the happiest man in Austin Stack Park on Wednesday night after his beloved Ulster University regained the Sigerson Cup after a 16-year wait.
The UU GAA president danced a jig of joy on the field after the 3-12 to 0-15 victory over UCD, which came in the University’s 50th year.
"If I die tonight, I'll die a happy man, I can tell you that," ‘Tommy Joe’ said in an uplifting interview with Higher Education GAA afterwards.
"It's a good job I took the blood pressure tablets this morning.
"A lot of sad days, and a lot of hard days but I knew it would come with these lads. These are a good bunch of lads. They want to be there, and you can see the way they fought there. They're unbelievable.
"This is our 50th anniversary. You dream of things like this. I said boys 'I'm dreaming to win a Sigerson Cup in our 50th anniversary' and they've done it."
"All the doubters talking about players that weren't there, those players are here, and they won it."
TweetTears of joy for Tommy Joe!
