Conor McKenna could miss the start of the AFL season through injury.

The 2021 Tyrone All-Ireland SFC winner picked up a hamstring injury during a Brisbane Lions practice match last week and has been ruled out of upcoming pre-season matches against the Gold Coast and Sydney Swans.

However, the Lions remains hopeful that McKenna will be available for their AFL opener at home to Carlton on March 8.

“The club confirms defender Conor McKenna strained his hamstring in last Friday’s intra-club practice match,” they said in a statement.

“McKenna is expected to return to full training in approximately three weeks. The club is hopeful McKenna will be available for selection for its Opening Round clash against Carlton at The Gabba on Friday, 8 March.”
