Another link with the great Longford football team of the 1960s has been severed with the passing of Seamus Flynn.

The Clonguish clubman was a star defender on the Longford team that claimed historic National League and Leinster SFC titles in 1966 and ’68 respectively. Another member of that famous side, Sean Donnelly, only passed away last month.

Seamus held the distinction of being the only Longford man to captain Leinster in the Railway Cup (1968). In addition, he won seven Longford SFC medals with Clonguish – two as captain in 1968 and ’72 – was selected at right corner back on the Longford Football Team of the Millennium and was inducted into the Longford GAA Hall of Fame in 2018.

The deceased lived with his family in Lanesboro for many years and also won a county JFC medal with the local club, Rathcline, in 1984.
