Donegal joined Armagh at the top of the Allianz Football League Division 2 table after edging Cavan 0-13 to 0-12 at Kingspan Breffni.

With Oisin Gallen to the fore for them, Jim McGuinness’s side had been the better team during the opening half in Cavan Town as they took in a 0-8 to 0-4 lead with them at the half.

The hosts made a sizzling restart though that saw the points of Dara McVeety, Paddy Lynch (free) and Ciaran Brady closing the gap to one ahead of a Tir Chonaill response that saw scores from Jeaic Mac Ceallabhui and Paddy McBrearty push it out to four again.

Looking to back up their opening win over Kildare last weekend, Raymond Galligan’s men wouldn’t throw in the towel and raised white flags through substitute Caoimhin O'Reilly, Lynch (two frees) and James Smith to keep the heat on the favourites before finishing one short in the end.

In Ardee, Louth bounced back from last weekend’s painful one-point loss to Armagh by handing Cork a 2-9 to 0-13 defeat.

Ger Brennan’s men registered both of their goals in the space of two minutes during the first-half through Ciaran Downey and Ciaran Keenan to move towards a 2-4 to 0-9 interval lead.

The visitors would retake the lead after the turnaround thanks to points from Colm O’Callaghan and Eoghan McSweeney, but the Wee County came with a big finish that saw Craig Lennon, Ryan Burns and Sam Mulroy (free) landing the all important points.
