Fergal Boland proved the hero as Mayo scored a late 1-12 to 0-14 victory over Dublin in Castlebar tonight.

In what was the Westerners first home win over the Dubs since 2012, Boland came up trumps for them at the very end after taking deliver of a Ryan O'Donoghue free out of the corner and splitting the posts for his team’s second win of the Allianz Football League Division 1 campaign.

The sides had been honours even at the end of the opening 35 minutes at MacHale Park, going in on 0-8 apiece, and, after the turnaround, the All-Ireland champions looked the more likely team to claim the points as scores from David O’Hanlon (free), Paddy Small (free) and Cormac Costello surged them three clear.

However, Stephen Coen flicked in a close range goal at the perfect time for Kevin McStay’s side and, with the game level in the added minutes, Boland would be the man to snatch the winner for the holders (watch it below) and condemn the capital men to a second straight league loss in the process.
