Sligo survived a late rally from Cavan (4-19 to 3-18) to put two early points on the board in Division 3A of the Allianz Hurling League.
The Connacht men looked to be cruising after the goals of Gerard O’Kelly-Lynch (2), Conor Griffin and Liam O’Kelly-Lynch saw them leading by 4-13 to 0-10 at the halfway stage at Markievicz Park.
However, Cavan hit back with goals from skipper Canice Maher, Liam O’Brien and Nicholas Kenny in the closing quarter but, in the end, still couldn’t make up their deficit in time.
In Division 3B, all four teams in action this afternoon shared a point each, with Warwickshire and Leitrim (1-17 to 0-20) and Lancashire and Longford (0-12 to 1-9) playing out draws.
