Darragh Canavan shot 0-8 as Tyrone opened their Allianz Football League Division 1 campaign with a hard earned 0-17 to 1-11 win against Roscommon in Omagh this afternoon.

Having saw midfielder Conn Kilpatrick red-carded early in the second-half, the home side had to dig deep to clinch two points in this one and their ace attacker Canavan came to the fore for them.

The Errigal Ciaran forward’s first point of the day had put the Red Hands 0-4 to 0-3 in front after 13 minutes, but it was the Rossies that landed the first hammer blow a minute later when Donie Smith lashed the ball to the home side’s net.

From there, the Connacht men stayed in front until points from Ben Cullen and Niall Devlin sent Tyrone in with a 0-10 to 1-6 lead the interval.

Kilpatrick got his marching orders four minutes into the restart and it seemingly served to lift the hosts, as speedster Canavan struck over four points in 10 minutes that saw them ahead by five.

Ciaran Daly pulled back a point for the Rossies ahead of two Canavan frees in the last six minutes closing out his side’s opening win.
