Maynooth University and University of Galway are through to the Sigerson Cup quarter-finals following victories over UCC and St Mary's respectively last night.
Darragh Kirwan scored 2-4 from play as Maynooth knocked out holders UCC on a 2-14 to 1-12 scoreline. Both of the Naas clubman's goals came in the opening quarter as Maynooth built up a 2-9 to 1-4 half-time lead.
UCC - who registered a staggering 9-21 against ATU Galway in their previous game - couldn't find a way back on a night when Shane O'Sullivan also chipped in with 0-4 for the winners, who had lost to UL last time out.
Meanwhile, Cian Monaghan was the University of Galway hero after his two injury-time points saw them edge out St Mary's University by 0-11 to 1-7.
Trailing by four points, St Mary's scored a late 1-2 - the goal coming from Shea Daly in the 56th minute - to take the lead. But there was still enough time for the Galway students to turn it around.
