Longford made it back-to-back O’Byrne Cup titles thanks to a 1-12 to 0-9 win against Dublin at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise this afternoon.
Keelin McGann’s goal 10 minutes into the second-half put the Midlanders on the path to a victory which marks their fifth ever success in the competition.
Darren Gallagher’s frees helped the victors settle in as they built up a 0-8 to 0-3 lead by half-time and McGann’s coolly taken goal (see it below) would see them up by seven points.
An experimental capital side kept in touch with points from Luke Swan (mark) and Colm Basquel (free) down the home stretch, but their opponents weren't willing to relinquish their title.
Gallagher’s point a minute from injury-time put a seal on the six-point victory in the end, as Longford claimed some early silverware once again to start their season with.
