Galway will face Wexford in tomorrow week’s Walsh Cup final after both sides came through their respective semi-finals this afternoon.
Jason Flynn’s goal just before half-time helped Galway score a 1-24 to 0-17 victory over Dublin at Parnell Park to secure their final berth.
Flynn’s strike saw Henry Shefflin’s men towards a 1-11 to 0-7 interval lead and, despite the hosts pucking over the first three points of the restart via Dara Purcell and Cian O’Sullivan (2), the Tribesmen were able to see out the win with marksman Evan Niland contributing 0-17 (11f, 1 ’65) along the way.
In Callan, Wexford held on for a 0-18 to 2-11 win against Kilkenny to advance to next weekend’s decider.
The Slaneysiders’ strong start saw them leading by four points after 10 minutes and the latter stages of the first-half saw points from Seamus Casey (free), Jack O’Connor and Conor Hearne move them towards a 0-12 to 0-6 lead at the break.
Eoin Guilfoyle’s goal from a free midway through the second-half saw the Cats cut their deficit to three and the UCD student would repeat the trick again deep in injury-time, but it still left them one-point short in the end.
