London sprung an early season upset by defeating Mayo on a 0-12 to 1-8 scoreline at the Connacht GAA Air Dome this afternoon.
Shay Rafter landed what proved the winning score for the Exiles a minute from injury-time to set up a Connacht FL semi-final showdown with Roscommon next weekend.
Cillian O’Connor’s free had saw Mayo leading by 0-6 to 0-5 at the halfway stage before their opponents made a strong start to the second-half that saw them surge two points ahead.
Donnacha McHugh made it a one-point game again for the Westerners and a 50th minute goal from veteran O’Connor saw them hit the front, as the scoreboard read 1-7 to 0-9.
However, from there, Kevin McStay’s men would only post one more point via Conall Dawson’s free as Liam Gallagher and Rafter sent over frees at the other end that secured London’s victory.
