Derry made it back-to-back wins in the Dr McKenna Cup this evening by coming from behind to see off Down on a 0-13 to 0-10 scoreline.
Mickey Harte’s men struck four of the last five the last four points in Owenbeg to clinch the victory, with Niall Loughlin (2), Conor Doherty and Gareth McKinless the men to come up big for them down the home stretch.
Minus the services of their Glen contingent, the Ulster champions had a below par first-half and it allowed the visitors to open up a 0-8 to 0-3 lead after Pat Havern’s point on 27 minutes.
Shane McGuigan (free) and Paul Cassidy pulled back points before half-time for the Oak Leafers and by the 49th minute they’d close the gap on Down with Declan Cassidy’s point.
Harte’s men went on to boss the closing quarter after that, ensuring themselves a place in the competition’s semi-finals in the process.
