Former Galway full back and captain Finian Hanley has been appointed Salthill-Knocknacarra manager in succession to John O’Mahony.

Hanley steps up from the role of selector to replace the 1998 and 2001 Galway All-Ireland SFC winning manager, who spent two years in charge of the seasiders, reaching the county final last year and quarter-final this year. On both occasions, they came up short against Moycullen.

“The club wishes to express our thanks and gratitude to our Senior Football manager, John O Mahony who is stepping down from this role after a wonderful two-year journey for the club with him and his management team,” Salthill-Knocknacarra said in a social media post.

“For all of us in the club, we are deeply grateful to John for the vast experience he has imparted to us in the club over the last two years at every level and the structures he has put in place within Football in the club.

“An obvious highlight during John’s term with our Senior Football team, was our club reaching the County Final in 2022 with low expectations at the start of this year and on a different day, this is a game we could have won and would have provided a spectacular finish to his first year with the club and added yet another achievement to John’s amazing CV within the GAA at every level.

“And as part of John’s legacy with the club, there will be continuance of his management team with our Senior Football team, and the Club are pleased to announce that Finian Hanley will take up the role of Senior Manager, supported by Sean Armstrong and Norman Costello, and our legendary kitman, Joe Greaney from within the club.”
