Fermanagh LGFA has led the tributes to former county star Eimir Martin who passed away in the early hours of Monday morning after a battle with illness.

Aged just 35, Eimir lined out for Lisnaskea Emmett’s and Fermanagh, and worked as a midwife at the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen. She was named Queen’s University Student Midwife of the Year in 2020.

“We are heartbroken and saddened to hear about the sad passing of Eimir Martin early this morning," Fermanagh LGFA said in a Facebook post yesterday.

“Eimir was a past player of our county and her club Lisnaskea Emmetts, and beloved sister of our county referee Aíne.

“While her illness put an untimely end to her playing career, she remained an avid and fervent supporter of all things Gaelic. She fought her battle with dignity and courage and didn't let it prevent her from forging a career in midwifery in the SWAH. A role she excelled in.

“We all send our love and prayers to her beloved family; parents Vincent and Geraldine, sister Aíne (John), and brothers Tony (Joanna) and Brian and her darling nephews Oliver and Adam, her heartbroken friends and club.

“Everyone associated with Fermanagh LGFA will keep the Martin family in their thoughts and prayers at this truly sad time. Her courageous battle is finally over. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
