Mount Leinster Rangers manager Paul O’Brien has labelled Diarmuid Byrne’s dismissal against O’Loughlin Gaels as ‘ridiculous’.

The substitute was sent off on two yellow cards, the first of which was shown in the 39th minute for entering the field without following the proper protocols. That came back to haunt him when he received a second yellow in the 54th minute when there was just four points between the teams.

O’Loughlins made the most of their numerical advantage in the closing stages to win by 2-16 to 0-13.

“We tried to do things right when we had a free, get a fella on, get a fella off. The fella (Tony Lawlor) that came off was off the field, he was up in the stand and had to go from the stand back onto the pitch,” O’Brien explained to reporters.

“That kind of stuff is ridiculous. And I’m not making an excuse out of it, it’s just silly. Just trying to put a sub on and there’s an ordeal to it.”
