Newcastle West’s goal-scoring ability proved decisive as they completed their first-ever Limerick SFC three-in-a-row at Adare’s expense in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Eoin Hurley struck twice, while Bryan Nix raised another green flag as the Magpies prevailed by a point, 3-5 to 0-13, to maintain their vice-like grip on the Fr Casey Cup. They are the first team to win a three-in-a-row since Treaty Sarsfields in 1975.

In a repeat of the 2021 and ’22 finals, Adare got off to a flying start to lead by 0-6 to 0-1 after 20 minutes thanks to points from Ronan and David Connolly, and Hugh Bourke. But quickfire goals from Hurley sent Newcastle West into the break with a 2-2 to 0-7 lead.

Bourke levelled after the restart from a free, but a third goal for the holders from Nix left Adare chasing the game. Despite losing their captain Iain Corbett to injury, Jimmy Lee’s men did just enough to make history and earn a Munster SFC Club quarter-final meeting with Clonmel Commercials next weekend.
