Killoe Young Emmets clinched their third Longford senior football championship title in five years after a dramatic late victory over Clonguish at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
An injury-time free from Mark Hughes sealed the victory for Luke Dempsey’s men as they recorded their club’s 14th SFC success on a 1-8 to 0-10 scoreline.
The sides couldn’t be separated at the end of the first-half, as a Hughes free sent the teams in on 0-4 apiece but the start of the second-half would see Killoe landing the first significant blow.
A perfectly weighed pass from Paddy Moran allowed Hughes to punch to the net and the three-point margin wouldn’t be closed until the closing 10 minutes which saw Michael Flynn, Matthew Carey (2) sailing over points for Clonguish.
The decider looked set for extra time until Killoe’s captain Cian Farrelly drew a free in the second minute of injury-time that Hughes coolly stroked over for the win.
