Kilcoo are Down senior football champions for the fifth year in-a-row after seeing off Burren by 2-12 to 0-9 at Pairc Esler this afternoon.
After some major referee drama before the decider that eventually saw stand-in referee Brian Higgins appointed for the game, the defending champions took control by the 18th minute and didn’t look back as they went on to seal their 11th Frank O’Hare Cup success in 12 years.
Points from Paul Devlin, Shealan Johnston and Ryan Johnston helped the Magpies to lead by 0-8 to 0-3 at the halfway stage and when Miceal Rooney hit Burren’s net eight minutes into the second-half they had one hand on the trophy.
Burren did get back within four after an Odhran Murdock point from distance, but the holders soon got motoring again and Devlin’s penalty late in injury-time would be the icing on the cake for them.
