Tomas Keyes struck for 3-6 as Camross saw off Abbeyleix by 4-18 to 0-14 in Portlaoise for their first Laois senior hurling championship crown in five years.

It was hat-trick of goals inside the opening quarter at Laois Hire O’Moore Park that saw Camross take control this decider and never look back, denying Abbeyleix in their first county SHC final since 1949.

Keyes netted his first inside the opening minute and his second and third majors would see his side towards a 3-5 to 0-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Liam Delaney put Mark Dowling through for goal number four as Camross went in with a commanding 4-7 to 0-6 lead at the half.

Eoghan Fennelly registered two early second-half points for Abbeyleix, but that was about as good as it got for the underdogs as Ciaran Collier and Tom Cuddy kept the scores coming for the victors whom went on to record their club’s 27th SHC success.
