St Loman’s claimed their 10th Westmeath senior football championship crown this afternoon thanks to a 0-9 to 0-7 win over Coralstown/Kinnegad at Cusack Park this afternoon.
The Mullingar men led by 0-5 to 0-1 at the halfway stage with Sam McCartan (2) and John Heslin (free) sailing over points for them early on.
Coralstown/Kinnegad had the wind at their backs for the second-half and shot four points – two of them from Shane Fleming – without reply to draw level.
The sides would be level twice more, with Brian Cooney leaving this decider on a knife edge after his 56th minute point made it 0-7 apiece.
Captain Heslin nudge St Loman’s back in front before substitute TJ Cox provided the insurance point late in injury-time, securing the club’s seventh SFC success in 11 years as they get set to face the Wexford champions in the Leinster club championship on October 21/22.
