A dominant first half display paved the way for holders Clonguish Gaels’ 2-14 to 1-14 victory over Longford Slashers in the Longford SHC final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
In what was a repeat of last year’s decider, goals from captain Stephen Gregg and Bart Hanley propelled the Gaels into a 2-10 to 1-5 interval lead. Michael Mulcahy scored the Slashers goal before they staged a second half comeback with free-taker Reuben Murray leading the way.
Clonguish’s lead was down to three points, 2-10 to 1-10, with 15 minutes remaining, but a Joe O’Brien point steadied them as the Newtownforbes outfit went on to claim a seventh title.
