Graiguecullen moved into the quarter-finals of the Laois senior football championship yesterday (Saturday) after knocking out Stradbally with a 1-10 to 0-5 victory in Portlaoise.
Points from Lee Walker and Conor Kelly settled the would-be winners in after a low-scoring opening quarter at O’Moore Park and they’d eventually march towards a 0-6 to 0-3 half-time lead.
Eoin Buggie helped narrow the deficit down to two for Stradbally after the turnaround and they’d have a chance to hit the net with 10 minutes to go from a penalty, but Danny Maher denied them with a fine save.
From there, Graiguecullen saw out he victory by registering points that put them ahead by double scores (0-10 to 0-5) before Walker netted their goal in the fourth minute of injury-time.
Earlier in the day, Emo were 2-8 to 1-4 winners over Clonaslee at the same venue, with Nigel Murphy and Paddy Hosey firing in the winners’ goals in either half as they sealed their place in the last eight (see draws below).
