Paul Flynn has promised “no more midnight tweets” after saying that David Clifford was ‘smoked’ against Dublin in the All-Ireland SFC final, and therefore doesn't deserve the Player of the Year Award.
The former Dublin star came in for heavy criticism after he tweeted late on Monday night: "Clifford was smoked against Dublin and poor against Tyrone yet still people think he is footballer of the year.
"Not for me - James Mc (McCarthy) led Dublin to glory without having his best day yest! He’s a born winner and leader."
But realising that his use of the word ‘smoked’ might not have been appropriate, the former GPA chief executive and current RTÉ pundit rowed back with a follow-up tweet yesterday afternoon which read:
"Bit of controversy re my last tweet.
"Do I think Mick Fitz got the better of Clifford? Yes Do I think Clifford was POTY? No Do I think he’s one of best in our generation? Yes - and top ambassador for game. No more midnight tweets..."
