Billy Sheehan's spell as Laois senior football manager has come to an end after two years.

The Kerry native, who played for the O'Moore County for over a decade has decided to step down and a review will not take place for him to be appointed for a third season.

Operating out of Division 4 following relegation in his first season in charge, Laois narrowly missed out on promotion. A heavy Leinster quarter-final loss to Dublin was followed by encouraging wins against Fermanagh and Limerick in the Tailteann Cup before a collapse against Down in a televised semi-final.

"Outgoing Laois senior football manager Billy Sheehan has informed Laois GAA officials following his review meeting that he is stepping down from his position," read a Laois County Board statement.

"Laois GAA would like to thank Billy and his backroom team for their commitment and work with this panel for the past two years and wish them well in the future.

"Laois GAA will now establish an appointments committee to source a new football manager for the coming season."
