Down will play Meath in next month’s Tailteann Cup final after dismantling Laois with ruthless display at Croke Park this afternoon that saw them win out by 8-16 to 2-12.

Conor Laverty’s men struck four goals in each half, with their first coming from Liam Kerr after just 50 seconds of play at headquarters.

Pat Havern, Kerr and Danny Magill all added a goal each over the next 16 minutes as the Mourne County moved towards a 4-10 to 0-4 lead.

Kerr completed his hat-trick within a minute of the restart before Odhran Murdock drove in his team’s sixth goal in 48th minute to heap more misery on the O’Moore men.

Rory Mason netted another seven minutes later prior to Laois pulling back goals via Kevin Swayne and Mark Barry (penalty) in the closing 10 minutes – either side of Magill’s second and Down’s eighth.

The Mourne men now get set to face Meath on July 15th at Croker, where the Tailteann Cup and promotion to next year’s All-Ireland SFC will be on the line for both teams.
