Kevin O’Donovan’s late point secured Cork a place in Monday morning’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-final draw as they overcame Roscommon by 1-14 to 0-16 this afternoon.

Before a crowd of 14,294 at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, the Rebels were able to hold off their opponents’ fightback in the closing 15 minutes and it was O’Donovan’s fisted point in the third minute of injury-time that separated the sides in the end.

It was Roscommon that edged a 0-7 to 0-6 lead at the halfway stage, with the excellent Enda Smith and Murtagh brothers, Ciaráin and Diarmuid, very much to the fore for them.

Rory Maguire levelled this preliminary quarter-final tie within two minutes of the resumption and the sides would be all square three more times before points from Luke Fahy and Steven Sherlock have the Leesiders some breathing space.

A place in the last eight looked secured for John Cleary’s men when Conor Corbett rattled the Rossies’ net but the visitors fought back and had it all square again by the 69th minute before O’Donovan’s late intervention.
