Wicklow came from behind to defeat Donegal by 1-20 to 3-12 at Croke Park and secure their first ever Nickey Rackard Cup title.
Bidding for their fourth success in the competition, Donegal looked to be in the driving-seat after goals from Ryan Hilferty and Liam McKinney inside the opening 22 minutes at headquarters.
Those strikes saw the Tir Chonaill men taking in a 2-8 to 0-10 lead at half-time but Wicklow battled back after the turnaround with marksman Christy Moorehouse (0-9) to the fore for them.
The goal came for the Garden men via Andy O’Brien after a long ball in from Jack Doyle and they didn’t look back after that, running up a five-point lead by the late stages of the decider.
Luke White’s goal did give Donegal some hope but Wicklow managed to hold on for the two-point win to record their first Rackard Cup triumph and return straight back to the Christy Ring Cup for next year.
