Clare continued their recent impressive form by handing Waterford a 2-22 to 0-16 defeat in the fourth of the Munster senior hurling championship this evening.
Ian Galvin’s well-taken goal off the back of a sublime rob from Tony Kelly was that separated the sides by half-time in Thurles, as the Banner went in leading 1-10 to 0-10.
However, Waterford would be playing the entire second-half with 14 men after centre half-back Calum Lyons picked up his second caution in the 31st minute.
Dessie Hutchinson pointed for the Deise men within 20 second of the restart but that was the closest they’d get to their counterparts for the remainder of the evening.
After missing a couple of goal chances, Clare got humming again and their talisman Kelly would hit seven points in a row, with just one pointed free at the other end the response, as they turned the screw.
To round off the impressive win, Peter Duggan would flick into Cathal Malone’s path and the midfielder smashed to the net, putting a stamp on Waterford’s championship exit as Clare now find themselves a win away from a Munster final place with Cork up next.
