Killian Browne’s magnificent 57th minute goal ensured Kildare the All-Ireland U20 football championship crown as they defeated Sligo by 1-17 to 0-12 at Kingspan Breffni.
After having led by 0-9 to 0-4 at the halfway stage, the Lilywhites stayed in control despite a much-improved effort from their Connacht counterparts after the turnaround.
Harry O’Neill and Clane’s Adam Fanning were on the scoresheet for the would-be winners in the second-half, but the points of Luke Marren kept Sligo in contention and they’d have the margin thanks to scores from Brian Byrne and Marren (free).
Sean Hannafin grabbed a point for Kildare heading down the home stretch and, from the resultant kick-out, Browne took full advantage of a miscue and lobbed in the game’s only goal with this effort:
