Louth and Wexford are through to the last eight of the Leinster minor football championship after earning wins in their respective preliminary quarter-finals yesterday evening.
Louth dug deep to see off a resilient Wicklow outfit by 0-12 to 0-10 in Aughrim, where they set-up a provincial quarter-final showdown against Offaly.
Having led by 0-5 to 0-3 at the halfway stage, the visitors held on to their two-point advantage until Joe Heatly’s point square things for Wicklow in the final quarter.
Louth pushed in front again with a Dylan Shevlin and scores from Adam Gillespie, Tony McDonnell and Shevlin down the home stretch would be enough to see them through.
In Chadwicks Wexford Park, Wexford were in ruthless form as they hit Laois for half a dozen goals in a 6-10 to 0-9 victory.
Rory Gilbert was the star of the show for the Slaneysiders, as he struck 3-3 over the hour and had his hat-trick of goals completed by the second minute of the second-half.
Further goals from Tom Funge, Cathal Kehoe and Colin Ivers helped complete the rout for the Model lads as they now look forward to a battle against Meath on Tuesday week.
