Clare brought an end to Limerick’s 17-game winning streak in championship hurling thanks to a 1-24 to 2-20 victory at the TUS Gaelic Grounds this evening.

Brian Lohan’s men hit huge points down the home stretch that even afforded them to concede a Seamus Flanagan goal right at the end of an epic encounter.

Flanagan had netted in the 29th minute for the All-Ireland champions and, along with two superb Nickie Quaid saves, it saw the home side taking in a 1-10 to 0-12 lead at the half.

Clare levelled in the early seconds of the restart and then hit the net five minutes later through Peter Duggan’s low effort as signs of an upset really started to emerge.

John Kiely’s charges squared the game with four unaswered points and the teams would be level three more times before Shane O’Donnell, Tony Kelly and substitute Aron Shanagher (2) sailed over scores that saw Flanagan’s strike at the death end up being in vain for the holders.

The win keeps the Banner men’s Munster SHC hopes firmly alive ahead of their meeting with Davy Fitzgerald’s Waterford in a fortnight’s time in Thurles.
