Tadhg de Burca is facing another long spell on the sidelines after suffering an Achilles injury during the first half of Waterford’s narrow Munster SHC defeat to Limerick.

It’s another cruel blow for the brilliant defender who missed all of the 2021 campaign after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury against the Treaty County in the 2020 All-Ireland SHC final which was played behind-closed-doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"His Achilles is gone, he’s in trouble, he’s out for the rest of the year I’d say," Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald told RTÉ after yesterday’s game.

"I’m absolutely gutted because the way he prepared in the off-season, the months he put in rehab.

"We worked so hard on him. I’m absolutely gutted for him. It’s a massive loss for us, there is no point saying otherwise."
