Limerick edged out a plucky Waterford side by 1-18 to 0-19 in Thurles this afternoon to get their Munster senior hurling championship campaign off to a winning start.
Seamus Flanagan’s 21st minute goal (see it below) proved key for the All-Ireland champions as they saw off Davy Fitzgerald’s men by two points in the end.
Flanagan’s strike helped the Treaty County to carry in a 1-11 to 0-10 lead at the half, but Waterford would keep with them throughout the second-half and they’d be aided by the dismissal of Gearoid Hegarty after the former Hurler of the Year picked up a second yellow card on 48 minutes.
Stephen Bennett, Dessie Hutchinson and Austin Gleeson shot over points after that which left it at 1-17 to 0-17 heading into the added minutes but Fitzgerald’s men would finish two short in the end.
