Kerry and Cork will contest the Munster U20FC final after two very contrasting semi-final victories over Clare and Limerick respectively last night.
In Tralee, Tomás Ó Sé's Kerry side received a huge scare from Clare before eventually prevailing by 1-20 to 4-9 after extra-time. The visitors threw down the gauntlet with early goals from Odhrán Cunningham and Joe Rafferty before the Kingdom rallied with six unanswered points to lead by two at the interval.
They extended their advantage to five points before Cunningham's second goal helped the Banner to force extra-time. Kerry lost Rob Monahan - scorer of 0-5 - to a red card at the end of normal time, but were restored to 15 players for extra-time where they outscored Clare by 1-4 to 1-2. The all-important Kerry goal was supplied by Keith Evans in the 74th minute.
In the other last-four tie at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Cork qualified for their 13th consecutive Munster final in the U20 / U21 grade with a comfortable 2-14 to 0-6 victory over Limerick.
Hugh O’Connor and Niall Kelly both raised green flags for the Rebels who were always in control.
