Limerick are Allianz Hurling League Division 1 champions after delivering an impressive 2-20 to 0-15 win over Kilkenny at Pairc Ui Chaoimh this afternoon.
In game which was a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland SHC decider, the goals came from Barry Nash and Aaron Gillane as John Kiely’s men won out emphatically and added another trophy to their collection.
Nash’s strike came in the 18th minute and surged the Treaty men two ahead as they went on to hold a 1-13 to 0-10 lead at the half.
What was more impressive was the All-Ireland champions’ defence holding the Cats to just five points throughout the entire second-half, with Billy Drennan finishing their top-scorer with five frees over the 70 minutes.
The icing on the cake for Limerick arrived on 54 minutes when Gillane smashed in a superb volley to the Leinster champions’ net via Seamus Flanagan’s perfect pass.
Damage done, the Shannonsiders wouldn’t have to register a score for the closing dozen minutes in Cork as the silverware was secured.
