Sligo cruised into the semi-finals of the Connacht senior football championship this afternoon by dishing out a 2-20 to 0-12 hammering to London at McGovern Park this afternoon.

The Ruislip clash officially marked the start of the 2023 All-Ireland SFC and saw the newly crowned Division 4 champions comfortable throughout.

The visitors had built up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead after 22 minutes and the points of Luke Towey, Nathan Mullen and Sean Carrabine (free) sent them in at the break leading by eight (0-12 to 0-4).

Chris Farely sailed over a free in the first of the restart for the Exiles but Sligo kept the points coming and a goal from Carrabine would have them 1-15 to 0-7 ahead with 20 minutes to go.

Pat Spillane had the ball in the London net some 10 minutes later to well and truly kill off the game as contest, as Tony McEntee’s men now look forward to a provincial semi-final date against either Leitrim or New York two weeks from today.
