Cork are set to appeal the straight red card issued to Eoin Downey during yesterday's Allianz Hurling League semi-final defeat to Kilkenny.

The full back was sent off by referee John Keenan following a melee which resulted in a handful of other players receiving yellow cards. Downey appeared to clash with Martin Keoghan and is now facing the prospect of being suspended for the Rebels' Munster SHC opener against Waterford in a fortnight's time.

Cork manager Pat Ryan indicated after the game that an appeal would be forthcoming.

"We just have to have a look at it. To be honest with you, I didn't see Eoin doing too much," he said.
