Donegal booked their place in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2B final by edging out Wicklow 0-17 to 0-16 in Aughrim this afternoon.
Despite playing the majority of the second-half with 14 men after losing centre-forward Ronan McDermott to a second caution, the Tir Chonaill County were able to dig deep and grind out the result which puts them into the decider against Meath next weekend.
The visitors had led by 0-10 to 0-5 at the halfway stage, but the loss of McDermott early in the restart opened the door for Wicklow and they’d reduce their opponents’ advantage with a couple of Christy Moorehouse scores.
Mikey Lee and Andy O’Brien struck the points that had Donegal’s lead down to two but Liam McKinney (0-10) steadied the Ulster men’s ship with some nerveless frees and, in the end, chances to level the game late on went by the wayside for the Garden County.
