Griffin: 'Kilkenny will never be in the doldrums'

Liam Griffin thinks it’s only a matter of time before Kilkenny return to the winners’ enclosure.
The Cats’ last Liam MacCarthy triumph came in 2015, which is a long time by their high standards, but the 1996 Wexford All-Ireland SHC winning manager sees no reason for panic.
“I would never despair for Kilkenny, since the time Moses was a small child Kilkenny have been great hurlers, and they still are,” Griffin said in an interview with KCLR.
“I love Kilkenny hurling, I love the way they play, they are tough and hardy and they are great players. From my perspective, Kilkenny will never be in the doldrums. It might be eight years (since they won an All-Ireland) – try 54 years!”
“Derek Lyng needs time, as long as they don’t go soccer-esque with this thing, and start sacking fellas because they are not winning All Irelands in the first year, I guarantee you in the next seven or eight years you will see Kilkenny back again with a team, and the standard will never dip too low.
“It will always be high.”
