Cody double helps Cats cruise against Dublin while Antrim secure league safety

Kilkenny left themselves on the verge of an Allianz Hurling League Division 1 semi-final berth after brushing aside a disappointing Dublin side by 2-25 to 1-17 at Nowlan Park.
Billy Drennan’s points helped the Leinster champions to build up a 0-7 to 0-1 lead early on and the Cats would kick on with 10 more scores to lead by 0-17 to 0-8 come half-time.
Donal Burke (free) would land the first score of the restart for the visitors but goals from captain Eoin Cody 44th and 56th minutes saw Kilkenny kill the game off as a contest.
Derek Lyng’s men now look forward to hosting Waterford next Sunday at the same venue, where the winners will be guaranteed a semi-final spot.
Meanwhile, Antrim secured their league status by defeating handing Laois a 3-18 to 1-18 defeat at Corrigan Park earlier in the day.
Nigel Elliott struck an early goal for the Saffrons but it was the visitors that controlled large portions of the first-half and Aaron Dunphy goal saw them move six in front.
Veteran Neil McManus got a goal back for Antrim that saw the scoreboard reading 1-14 to 2-9 at half-time and they’d produce the goods in the second-half.
Points from Conal Cunning and Joe Maskey early in the restart levelled the game and Cunning (1-10) would fire in the Glensmen’s third goal on 51 minutes on their way to the crucial victory.
