Armagh secured their second win in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League by holding off Donegal on a 0-13 to 0-10 scoreline tonight at the Athletic Grounds.

Points from Rian O’Neill (free) and Jarlath Og Burns down the home stretch proved key for the Orchard men in securing a victory which bumps them up to third in the table ahead of tomorrow’s other games in the top tier.

Kieran McGeeney’s charges were the better team in the first-half and full value for their 0-7 to 0-3 lead when the sides went in at the break.

However, the visitors fought back after the turnaround to narrow the deficit down to one by the 50th minute and, while they fell further behind once more, the points of Ciaran Thompson, Jamie Brennan and Jason McGee had the scoreboard reading 0-11 to 0-10 with a minute left in regulation.

Burns superb burst forward earned a free for O’Neill to pop over and the former would notch the game’s last point after the hosts broke down field in another counter attack.

The win lifts Armagh away from the bottom end of the Division 1 table, while the Tir Chonaill men remain in seventh place after being inflicted with their third defeat of the campaign.
